You've probably heard of "Bike Nights" where motorcycle enthusiasts pick a location and go hang out for fun and socialization, right? Well those of us enjoying an evening at the AHM one Friday night realized there are probably a whole lot more folks who would have enjoyed it too. So, after bantering this around over the weekend following while some of us were working an event at the AHM in 2009, the concept of "Hangar Nights" was born.
It's very simple--if you are 18 or older (adults only) you are invited to come and "hang out." Naturally, there will be hangar flying, wind/weather permitting the south hangar doors will be wide open so we can pull up our chairs, visit, watch whatever is flying and the lights come on in downtown KC. If you want food or beverage bring it with you. Your choice but no alcohol to excess--you are not invited to sleep in the hangar, so you'll have to drive home! Any smokers be advised there is NO smoking anywhere in the museum facility. The smoking areas are outside southwest side of parking lot. Inappropriate behavior in any way will result in that individual(s) making an early exit and no longer having the priviledge to attend.
This is an opportunity for our members to get to know each other, because we are usually working, but guests are very welcome too. The museum area will be closed. If you are a guest and want to tour the planes, there will undoubtedly be one or more members willing to guide you and a donation would be very much appreciated.
Our first Hangar Night was August 28, 2009. Since we plan to do this the 4th Friday night of each month April through October, the first night for 2010 would have been April 23rd but since that is the night before our Spring Hangar Dance, we will begin in May on the 28th. You can arrive around 6ish or whenever works for you, and we'll close up the hangar 10ish. Good idea to check this site that day to make sure it has not been cancelled or moved for some reason (an event booked here would necessitate a change), email us or call-- 816.421.3401.
