Twenty-four hours ago our first Rock Around the Props was in progress! The Benders were every bit as good as we'd heard they were and then some! Connie showed off her #3 and #2 engines during the first band intermission. #3 even did a little bit of the "good fire" which you can see (and lots, lots more) in Marty Williams' Speed of Flight photos. At the 10:00 pm break we all headed to the ramp again where we had a perfect view of the first night of the Riverfest fireworks (also in Marty's photos). Despite a pretty strong breeze out of the south limiting the amount the hangar doors could be open and very high humidity, the fun level was even higher. Looks like Rock Around the Props may be on our calendar to stay! See Connie's engine run here and more photos here.
Friday was a busy day for Connie between posing for cameras with classic cars and then 8 hours later having #3 engine run. See photos by clicking here and video by clicking here. Members, don't forget the Members Meeting is traditionally not on the 4th of July weekend, so there is no meeting this Saturday but it will be the following Saturday, the 10th.
Advance ticket sales for Rock Around the Props closed end of business Wednesday... but the good news is that tickets will be available at the door! The weather looks to be perfect for a summer evening. We know the Benders will not disappoint and added "attractions" are a Connie engine run on the first band intermission and a great view of the first night of the Riverfest Fireworks when they launch at 10:05 p.m. There will be a Chicago Style Hot Dog vendor (with brats, etc.) on site, a visit from an ice cream truck with lots of treats for sale and a cash bar. As always you can also bring your own food snacks with you. The museum, planes and Gift Shop will be open for tours from 5-8. Don't miss out on this great night!

Director of Maintenance, Larry Turpin's, love for Connie is always obvious. A few days ago he mentioned how dirty she had become with all the traffic that passes through. So Larry's dear wife, Jeanne, and their visiting niece, Eva, came down today and made her look like the Queen she is. Next time you pass through, thanks to Jeanne and Eva, she will look and smell good! What you see in this photo is the edge of the top berth and the obvious "cleaned and not cleaned."
