L-1011 Q & A

We have several questions that get asked frequently, so we decided it might be a good idea to post the answers here.

Q-Why were the L-1011 engines removed/you did not keep them?

A-Unknown to many, the engines were never part of the deal.  We got the L-1011 for the price we did with the condition we could have the plane flown from Roswell to Kansas City but the the engines would not belong to us and would then be removed.  When there was great interest in "saving" the engines it was thought we could necogiate those terms but the engines owner was not willing to sell them to us (they were sold to a third party).  Even though we never intended to fly it again, we do want the plane to look intact, so it was very disappointing when the replacement engines we were to receive also went elsewhere.  There is a crew here several times a week working to get a viable way for the L-1011 to be open for tours and they will also undoubtedly be part of whatever solution we find to get the plane looking whole again.

Q-Is the L-1011 open for tours?

A-The logistics of having the plane open to the public for tours is a somewhat complicated process and necessitates having some equipment in place that we currently don't have.  When the plane is ready, we will set a Grand Opening date which will be posted on this site and spread as far and wide as possible.

Q-Will our L-1011 be repainted in the TWA colors it once wore?

A-There are no plans to change the color scheme at this time.  Our financial resources are very limited and at this point, our concentration is on getting "dummy" engines back on so that she looks whole again.  Additionally we are in need of funds to get our DC-3 restoration project complete and that plane in the air, as well as a similar scenario for our Connie.

Is there a plan or a fund raiser in mind to raise capital specific to this ariplane's needs of possibly adding engines or the TWA livery paint ? I can appreciate there are many needs to fund the various parts and pieces of a museum such as AHM. I just think there may be an immediate opportunity to raise money based on the recent arrival of this plane in Kansas City.

I have additional information on this aircraft, photos, safety briefing cards, flight attendant manual (on disk) I would like to get them to the museum if they are interested.
