The name of the first woman to be employed with regularly schedule flights by a commercial airlines was Helen Richey. She was hired (admittedly later by James D. Condon, the president of Central Airlines, as a publicity move in December of 1934. Promptly additional qualified women pilots, such as Edna Gardner Whyte and Johanna Burse, applied and were not hired.

Additionally the Airline Pilots Association turned down Helen's request for membership and then also turned around and wrote the DoC a strong letter detailing their reasons. That letter would make a interesting addition to your museum as well as a display that features the history of women as pilots of commercial airlines.

Thank you for the tour yesterday. Paul Silvo was an excellent tour guide and will do well in the future with aviation and the museum.

Let me know if you would like help in developing the History of Women in Airline Aviation display as I am sure that there are many qualified sisters in the Ninety-nines willing to help. Some interactive displays would be quite engaging as well if young Paul is not available as a personal tour guide for every person wanting to go through the museum. Since my visit was improv and under the pressure of a limited timeframe, perhaps those components are already there and I just did not have time to experience them.
